Retailers are looking for a busy shopping season.
"I got people buying new laptops, new computers for families, TVs," Best Buy manager Wesley Ho said. "Everyone wants it all set up for their holiday season."
But before you hit the stores, look online. Big chain stores such as Best Buy and Old Navy are already posting Thanksgiving specials on social networking Web sites like Twitter and Facebook, enabling buyers to make the purchase online before "Black Friday."
If you're thinking local, you can find restaurant deals on centerd.com. They post deeply discounted restaurant gift certificate deals through Twitter.
Then there's a Web site called groupon.com.
Lisa English said she's saved money and tried new things with the site. Locally it offers savings on food, theater, spa, even indoor rock climbing. Here's how it works. Each day a new deal is advertised, but a certain amount of people have to agree to buy at the same price. You can even use it as gift and nobody has to know how much you really paid.
"When you get the coupon it doesn't show that it was discounted, it shows the full price, the value of it," English said.
So if you're buying a lot of this stuff online, you can save money on shipping if you agree to pick it up in the store. Not everyone does this, so check first before you order.
