BRUSSELS (AP) — NATO plans to ask Russia to contribute more to the escalating Afghan war. And, Russian officials aren't commenting on the possibility.
NATO diplomats say the expanding Afghan army could use donations of AK-47 assault rifles, grenade launchers, artillery, armored vehicles and fuel.
New NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen (AHN'-derz FOHG RAHS'-moo-sihn) will visit Moscow on Tuesday. His meetings with Russia's president and prime minister will focus on Afghanistan.
Two NATO diplomats said they don't expect the NATO chief to discuss specific requests, but there are plans to ask Russia in coming months for military assistance to Afghanistan.
