KABUL (AP) — A roadside bomb has killed five Afghan border security guards traveling in volatile southern Afghanistan while authorities report nearly a dozen militants with suspected Taliban ties have been detained today.
A border security commander says the bombing occurred before dawn along a heavily traveled road in Kandahar province.
NATO says its forces detained several militants in Kandahar province, including a suspect who NATO says was involved with suicide bombings in the area and has links to several senior local Taliban leaders.
South of Kabul, an Afghan-international security force detained several more militants.
In another operation south of the capital, a joint force detained several suspected militants, including a Taliban commander.
Another joint force killed a militant, detained another and recovered weapons.
