A burnout operation is scheduled for the 1,300-acre Eagle Fire near Leavenworth, fire officials said Sunday.
The burnout operation will proceed along the northwest portion of the current fire's perimeter and is scheduled to begin sometime in the next few days, weather permitting.
Aircraft will be visible to residents and visitors in Leavenworth during the operation.
The Eagle Fire was 50 percent contained Saturday and fire bosses say good progress is being made to stop it.
Containment lines have been completed along Eagle Creek Road on the south, east and west sides of the fire. The focus is now on the north side. Over 800 firefighters are on scene.
Eagle Creek Road is closed to the public about 3 miles above the junction with Chumstick Road.
Residents are under either a Level 1 or Level 2 evacuation, depending on their proximity to the fire. Level 3 means leave the area immediately.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
