A new KING 5 poll finds Democratic U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell in the lead as she runs for re-election this year.
In a poll of 617 registered voters across the state on landlines and cell phones, SurveyUSA finds Cantwell with 50%, while Republican Michael Baumgartner gets 41% support. The poll has margin of +-4%.
Baumgartner was elected just about a year ago to the Washington State Senate in a very expensive and hotly contested race in the Spokane area. This is his first run for statewide office, with other Republicans still considering whether to jump into the race.
One interesting thing in our poll--a big gender gap. Among women, Cantwell leads 55% to Baumgartner's 37%. But among men, it's Baumgartner 46% to Cantwell's 45%.
