Poll:
Would you use the Facebook unfriend script?

SEATTLE – In these days of social media, being unfriended on Facebook can be highly insulting for some. But unless you are constantly tracking your friend count, it’s very difficult to know who has decided they don’t want to be your friend anymore.

Mashable has found a script that can change all that. It will add an unfriend tab to your Facebook home page and will notify you when someone has decided to bid you adieu. It will also reportedly notify you when a friend has deactivated their profile.

Click here for a step-by-step gallery on how to download the script. Mashable reports the script works for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera.

UPDATE: Some people have reported that malware has been attached to this app. If you choose to download, do so at your own risk.

I don't think there's anything wrong with social networks, in and of themselves...but Facebook seems particularly nasty and creepy w/r/t privacy issues and targeted ads. Even Google is seemingly getting more creepy these days. Just remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to "free services" (i.e. your sellable, trackable habits are the product to the true customers: advertisers). Facebook is a marketers wet dream since people willingly give up too much info by "liking" things on the internet...why bother w/ that sh*t? If Facebook can last the "long haul" of 5-10 years, there's gonna be some great stories of the dirt dug up for people that become high profile...at least that will be amusing.

I used to take unfriending personal, but now I just figure those that unfriend people, are usually ones that lack social tact anyways (Not people I would want to be friends with).

Uh, I use facebook so I know what's going on so I never miss an in-person social event. Since Facebook, I get notifications when my favorite local bands are playing, when friends are having get-togethers, and much more! I go out and socialize face to face WAY MORE since being on Facebook. In fact, it's been a real boost to my in-person social life. And, I can keep up with my family family and friends much easier and much more frequently. Do I care who's unfriended me though? Nope, not really... the ones that unfriended me are the ones I didn't really know or socialize with very much anyway.

Why, kbbcoop? Just because you didn't enjoy it doesn't mean others shouldn't. My family is far-flung, and FB is how we stay in touch. We share pictures and news of our lives, and we can do it at our leisure. Phone calls are great, but they don't take the place of getting to see pictures and videos of our friends and loved ones. I suspect those who bad-mouth FB have had a bad experience. Sorry about that, really. But to suggest others get rid of it just because YOU don't like it? Well, that's kind of stupid.

I got rid of facebook years ago. I would advise everyone to do the same.

How about a script that can teach you actual live, interactive, face-to-face social skills?
