SEATTLE – Commodore 64 – one of the big reasons why personal home computing became a reality in the early 1980s -- is making a comeback, updated with modern amenities but with the same classic look. While it may not be as powerful as other PCs out today, people in their 30's, 40's and 50's who owned the old system may be inspired by nostalgia to buy it.

The new C64 keyboard looks and feels almost exactly the same, right down to the keys that are the same color and shape as the original. Commodore USA also says on its website that you can play many of the 8-bit era games that C64 owners of the past remember.

But that's about all you'll find that is old on the C64, which is basically a laptop but without an attached monitor. The processor is an Intel Atom D525 1.8GHz Dual Core CPU. The basic C64 has 2 GB of memory, which can be upgraded to 4 GB.

There is DVD R/W tray on the left side, which can be traded for a Bluray drive. On the right is a card reader and USB port, along with four more USB ports and an HDMI port on the rear of the keyboard. The C64 also boasts 1080p HD quality video and wireless Internet capability.

The unit is also compatible with Windows operating systems, according to Commodore USA on its website.

Prices for the C64 range from $250 for a bare bones system to $895 for the full package.
