Waterspout
Credit: NWCN viewer Randy Scholten
'This waterspout formed over the Pacific just west of Mt. Humbug (5 miles south of Port Orford, Oregon) at approximately 5:35 pm on October 24, 2010. It formed after an unusually black, low cloud passed over. The top of the spout then moved over Mt. Humbug while the tip of the spout moved along the north base of the mountain. A large amount of sea water seemed to get pulled up into the spout and well over 600 feet into the air (Mt. Humbug is 1,756 feet high). The water spout lasted approximately 2 minutes before vanishing. This photo was taken from the dock in Port Orford. Mt Humbug is visible on the left side of the photo.' - Randy Scholten
