A police chase ended with the suspect car rolling over several times on Interstate 5 in Fife, forcing the closure of the freeway overnight.

Auburn Police say the chase started just before midnight Tuesday when officers received a report of a car theft in progress.

The stolen car passed an Auburn police officer at Highway 18. The officer followed the car to I-5 while waiting for backup.

Police say the officer tried to stop the suspect near the Federal Way truck scales on southbound I-5. The suspect car sped up and the driver lost control and rolled the car.

A 45-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were in the car. Both were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma. The 45-year-old was listed in stable condition. There was no condition immediately available on the other suspect.

Nobody else was injured, but one other car was damaged due to flying debris.

Southbound I-5 was shut down for more than an hour during the investigation and clean-up.
