A California pup has made a name for himself as a surfing superstar. Last weekend "Jedi Surfs" competed in the Surf City Surf Dog contest in Huntington Beach.

Jedi's mom, Katie Seja, says Jedi was born in a puppy farm and was surrendered to a rescue center with his siblings.

Katie and husband Patrick adopted the Kelpie pup from a Simi Valley rescue.

Katie says in 2010, when Jedi was about 9 months old, he went to his first surf contest, the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon in Del Mar.

"He went to a friend’s pool and practiced balancing," she says.

Katie and Patrick would push him around and he loved it.

"He loves the water and everything about it," Katie says.

He got his first surfboard and mom and dad took him to the beach - that was the start of his career in dog surfing.

"Since Jedi is a herding dog he needed a job and that job was now dog surfing," says Katie.

Just take a look at the photos and video of Jedi surfing and you'll see how much he loves it.

"He loves the water and everything about it," Katie says.

In September 2011, Jedi placed second in his heat division at Surf City Surf Dog and took home second place in the finals. He's also the reigning first place holder with the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge 2012.

Jedi is an advocate for PAWS/LA and has raised funds for them by participating in a kissing booth, as well as via an auction held on his Facebook page.

"Jedi just held an auction for underprivileged kids in El Salvador and will be doing more charity work this year," Katie says.
