The American Cancer Society is looking for 10,000 volunteers to participate in a historic cancer research study. This is the third study of this kind ever done in the United States. The first discovered that cigarette smoking is a cause for lung cancer and the second determined that obesity was directly linked to cancer.
CPS-3 is looking for a diverse population of men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 with no prior diagnosis of cancer. Researchers will look at the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.
To participate in the study, individuals will spend thirty minutes at a local enrollment site to complete a brief survey, have their waist circumference measured and give a small blood sample. At home, individuals will complete a survey packet and can expect to complete a follow-up survey to update information every few years.
