Relatives of organ donors honored by Governor

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Governor Jay Inslee on Tuesday honored six families who helped save more than 20 lives through organ donations.

The families who received the state's Gift of Life awards had loved ones who donated organs after their deaths.

Betty Parker's son, Donald Largen, died in the Cafe Racer shooting in Seattle in May of 2012. His donated liver and lungs saved three lives.

Knowing the donation helped others gives Largen's mother some comfort.

You're always going to have that hole in your heart, said Parker, But you have to go on. I'm thankful other people are going on because of it.

Frank Sarabia, an Iraq war veteran, saved two lives with his donatedkidneys after being crushed by a truck at his Joint Base Lewis-McChord home.

His daughter, Ashley Antonich, said her father always talked about donating his organs.

She said knowing other lives were saved helps loved ones deal with the loss.

It does help, said Antonich. It doesn't take away all the grief.
