SEATTLE- An initiative aimed to help protect endangered animals has collected enough signatures for their proposal to be on the November ballot.
The Initiative 1401 Campaign announced at a press conference Wednesday at the Seattle Aquarium that they are turning in 348,627 signatures to the state Elections Office.
The goal of the initiative is to decrease poaching and exploitation by increasing penalties for selling and buying products made from endangered species. This includes animals such as elephants, tigers, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, sharks and marine turtles.
The Initiative 1401 Campaign is supported by the Humane Society, Woodland Park Zoo, and Paul Allen and Vulcan Inc.
