Wash. Senate offers new tax-hike package

OLYMPIA, Wash. -  Senate Democrats have endorsed a new offer on tax hikes, hoping to move the Legislature's budget negotiations forward.

The bottom line on the tax package is about $800 million. That's the target that Senate and House Democrats are assuming in this year's budget overhaul.

The new Senate revenue proposal has a smaller sales-tax increase than before -- two-tenths of a penny, instead of three-tenths. It also gives a break on business-tax increases for real estate agents, scientific research, and nonprofit public hospitals.

A tax on bottled water would be collected sooner, and a tax rebate for working families would be delayed until 2012.

It's unclear if the Senate offer can get much support from the House, or Gov. Chris Gregoire. They're both generally opposed to a sales tax increase.

The more the get the more they spend. Why not make some real cuts? Spend a little money, round up a lot of illegal aliens and ship them back to their country of origin.---- Sounds logical right? That means it will never happen and people who are not legal citizens will continue to burden the tax paying citizens of this state and country.

Our current leaders from the Governors’ office and State Representatives should resign for failure to control the state budget. The current deficit did not occur overnight. They have seen it coming and decided not to act in a manner consistent with good leadership. All they have done is run around crying about how much money is not coming in, but have done little to address the situation. The state bureaucracy has grown without check for too long and is now beyond the revenue income. Our state leaders, if they have any professional honor, should RESIGN immediately. As that is unlikely to happen, IMPEACHMENT proceedings should begin, starting with the Governor and continuing by going through the state capital building and through the state capital building and finish by taking out all the trash politicians currently residing there. Our “leaders” have overturned a voter initiative (tax-increase-limitation Initiative 960) in order to push for new state taxes to reduce the deficit.

Different packaging but still the same shortsighted proposal as before. These politicians no longer represent me, they have to go. I was not born in this State, but I have lived here since I was a kid (35 years). I always thought this was the greatest State in the Union, great climate, few natural disasters, well managed, a place I would never leave. But sadly this is changing. Traffic, taxes and a general distrust of any Government official are making me look elsewhere. Too much of my life energy is being stolen by the State and I fear even more taxes will require even more energy. Life is too short.
