King County Sheriff candidate John Urquhart announced Tuesday that former Federal Way and Spokane police chief Anne Kirkpatrick will be his chief deputy if he is elected next month.

Urquhart, the former sheriff’s office public information officer, retired last fall. He is facing interim Sheriff Steve Strachan.

Sheriff Sue Rahr retired in March to become executive director of the state’s Criminal Justice Training Commission. The winner of the election will complete the remainder of Rahr’s term, which ends next year.
