Republican Congressman and former King County Sheriff Dave Reichert tells KING 5 News he may consider running for Governor.

Republicans expect Attorney General Rob McKenna will jump into the race, but Reichert says he's keeping all his options open too.

After seven years in Congress, Reichert has a coveted seat on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee.

"The hardest part for me was in my first couple years, was getting used to sitting on the airplane," said Rep. Reichert in a recent interview with KING 5's Robert Mak.

Reichert said he's considering both a run at the Senate, taking on Washington Democrat Maria Cantwell, but also the Governor's position back here in Washington state.

"It's pretty much the same answer, the senate race is out there, the Governor's race is out there, my race, is already in process," said Rep. Reichert.

Reichert says just because some Republicans have thrown support behind McKenna, that's not a reason to rule out his options.

"I've had calls, I've said, 'Look, I know Rob's the guy, and I think Rob would be an outstanding candidate,'" he said. "But he is so bright and so well-liked, I think he has a great chance of winning. But, no one knows."

Also keeping his options open on the Democratic side is Congressman Jay Inslee, now serving his eighth term in Congress.

"If there is a vacancy in the Governor's office, I am giving that serious consideration," said Rep. Inslee. "I have some ideas that we need to take from private enterprise, from the Boeing's of the world, from the Starbucks of the world, from the Virginia Mason Hospitals of the world, and bring new efficiencies."

Other candidates will surely come forward in the coming months, and a lot hinges on whether Governor Gregoire runs for a third term in office. A decision is expected some time this summer.

This was the only guy they could afford to leave on the green river task force. Name recognition does not qualify him for any office.

This guy has more baggage than Sea Tac Airport. With Gregoire having the unions paying up big and the eviromental whackos in her camp if she runs for a third term she will win. She will win despite the shape the state is in and she did it with a legislature controlled by the Democrats. Unfortunate and sad but very true. My wife and I are nearing retirement and can't wait to get out of here and away, far far away from the melting pot of Democrats. Looks like this is yet another of those places where the minority control the majority.

Is he actually using his tenure at Seattle Police Department as an endorsement? He really is out of touch.

Logic14 I have to agree. What buisness do we have to give jobs to people to pay the debt? This state has screwed buisness for to long. I'm concerned that it's going to contiue to go down hill. Boeings left because of gov and unions, Microsoft has peaked a long time ago, apples have cut way back, what buis of any size do we have left. I know of small buis who left because of the state gov. Whats going to carry this state?

Hey Dave, You screwed up Seattle PD a few years ago, Moved to Washington DC-and did not represent our state, or those who lost jobs in Our state. Washington state does not need you. I recall you helped a school bus driver in being fired ( un employed) because she shot the bird at Bush during one of his trips to Puget Sound. You helped her loose her job. You know, Mr.Dave- I do not think politics is for you buddy. You should maybe do something else. We need someone in Office far better than what you have proven. We need someone far better than our Present Gov. We need someone with good ideas, and turn those into reality. You were paid by the US Govt. to sit on planes? is that what you were doing? So.. why did you WASTE MY MONEY having an office in DC. OH yea, I bet you either flew first class or in one of congress's private jets too didn't you. bottom line DAVE GO AWAY

Let us review....Democrats have run Washington for the last two decades. Most big business has left and continues to leave. All the social services are corrupt and wasting money yet the poor are in the same place. No one can find a job, highways are falling apart, and crime is going up. ANyone at this point could do a better job than all these lame democrats!!!! ANYONE!!!!

And this clown wants to be governor. Amazing.

Tree Climber, I am with you on this. No way I would vote for a tow the line Republican right now. He needs to be able to actually think for himself and the the rhetoric of the republican party. I see McKenna as a much stronger republican canidate for Governor though. He has been pretty bi-partisan for the most part up until he jumped on the anti-Healthcare bandwagon lawsuit. While I disagree with some of the things in the Healthcare bill that was passed, it is something that we need to have since the repulicans haven't got a plan that is much different from the one that was passed. Theirs was very similar to the Dems plan. Hopefully the Democrats put forth a stronger canidate this time around. I really don't want to go back to the begining of the 1900's when businesses were still allowed to run all over the american people.

Well, I am a well-heeled member of the "anybody but Christine" club now, so if Dave Reichert is willing to step up and bring some fiscal responsibility back to this state, then by all means, bring it on!

Oh sure our state needs a radical right wing tool who will say and do anything to serve his own political career. The governorship would give him his fourth pension? I still have an email he sent out during the health care debate in which he cynically spewed the death panel excrement.

Don't rule out Dino Rossi! No way will Gregoire run again, even she knows how unpopular she is, especially after this budget fiasco. She'll take the opportunity to bow out. The Democratic Party knows she can't win again and will try to come up with a better candidate without the baggage of Gregoire.

I certainly think we need more cops in every aspect of our lives. In fact, I think every household should have their own cop, with special convenient storage places to keep them in.

I would like all these people with their promises to leave this state if Reichert runs to please enact them and don't wait. Reichert would make an excellent choice after seeing this faltering state runs by a bunch of food stamp freaks and a governor who is totally clueless. He will win by a landslide against any Liberal candidate the Dems can dig up.
