SEATTLE - With six months until the election, a new KING 5 News poll finds Democrat Patty Murray would lose handily to Republican Dino Rossi if the election for her U.S. Senate seat from Washington were held today.

But neither camp is buying it, at least not publicly.

The poll conducted by SurveyUSA also finds Murray does not have a clear advantage against the other five possible Republican opponents.

SurveyUSA polled 850 Washington state residents, then narrowed it down to 517 who are likely to vote in November. They were asked who they would vote for in a matchup between Murray and any one of these six candidates: Dino Rossi, State Sen. Don Benton; former NFL player Clint Didier; businessman Chris Widener; businessman Paul Akers; or Dr. Art Coday.

Fifty-two percent say they would vote for Rossi over Murray while 42 percent said they would choose Murray. Seven percent were undecided.

However, both Dino Rossi and the Murray camp agree that these numbers don't seem right. Rossi says the internal and public polling shows Murray has the advantage.

All the other matchups are a statistical tie, as they fall within the margin of error of ±4.4 percent:

Murray vs. Benton

  • Murray: 46 percent
  • Benton: 44 percent
  • Undecided: 10 percent

Murray vs. Didier

  • Murray: 46 percent
  • Didier: 44 percent
  • Undecided: 10 percent

Murray vs. Widener

  • Murray: 45 percent
  • Widener: 43 percent
  • Undecided: 12 percent

Murray vs. Akers

  • Murray: 45 percent
  • Akers: 44 percent
  • Undecided: 11 percent

Murray vs. Coday

  • Murray: 45 percent
  • Coday: 41 percent
  • Undecided: 14 percent

Doesn't matter they are both the same, government puppets. I would like to know where they stand on certain issues before I would make up my mind. Also Murray screwed the US citizens and voted yes for the death of decent health care in this country, even when the people spoke out and said we didn't want it she voted yes anyway, someone was pulling her strings!

My point was that I certainly don't hinge my happiness on political issues one way or the other. I was a happy man through both the Clinton and Bush presidencies, I will be through the Obama presidency, and whoever comes after. I'm amazed at how rabid some of the posters become on these blogs... some even promoting open revolt against our government. Utter nutjobs.

Ruba61: Love your "facts" and all of the supporting documentation you have provided. "In the last year the Democraps spent more than in all of the Bush years put together." Could you please provide the source of the data you used for your statement? I'd love to see it. Since you must not have taken a civics class, for your information, in nearly all cases, spending requests are sent from the administration to the Congress, where they are massaged and sent BACK to the President for his signature or veto. If you ever watch the spending bills debates and votes on the C-Span channels, you would see lines at the bottom showing 1. the Administration requested amount; 2. the amount that the House is voting on or has passed; and 3. the amount the senate is voting on or passed. Since you think wars can not be budgeted, why was the Bush administration able to send a supplemental appropriation for the fiscal year immediately after their budget request?

yessir As a former civil rights activist, liberal, feminist (inclusive, not faux like Steinem), radical politics (Jesse Jackson in '88 and Kucinich, foolishly donated to McDermott's defense fund) I know the spin on both sides. I gave up on MSM early on, NPR and Jim Lehrer and Bill Moyers followed soon after. I finally began watching FOX Cable after avoiding it like the plague, and think they are as objectionable as other media. (Never listened to Limbaugh) I agree they are counting their chickens too soon. After all we are talking about displacing the Mob's handpicked poster boy, and they'll come up with some Alinsky tactic or Mob method for getting a problem out of the way. But I will do what I can to stop this. And it means Murray goes.

I have seen most of these candidates speak, including Murray. I will vote only conservative candidates, but if i were Murray's advisor, i would urge her to run away from any proposed debate as fast as those little tennis shoes can carry her. She is just about as dumb as a ditch rock, and consistently voted so by the D.C. staffers in their annual secret poll. Either Widener, Coday, or Craig Williams could EASILY debate her in circles until she falls down dizzy. Or, is that ditzy?

I am seriously thinking of voting Murray out if only to clear out the Democratic control of both houses Congress. I think she is a good Senator, has represented the state well, but has to go. I admired how long she and Sen. Cantwell continued to support Hillary. I'm truly sorry about voting against Murray - (and later Cantwell), but the behavior of Reid and Pelosi and the strong-arm tactics of the Obama administration means that no Democrat can defy them in any way. It will be a painful choice but I don't know how else to stop what's going on - the appointment of czars, cronies and lobbyists to sensitive positions, the refusals to continue with the black Panthers case in Philadelphia, the divisivness of this admst. and its supporters, the loss of any media responsibility and their caving in to fears of being labeled racist. I will not vote for Gregoire again either. It was disgraceful how quickly she raced to become an Obama girl. Poor vetting, poor judgment.

Bush was no saint and Obama's spending in the last year is far worse. In the last year the Democraps spent more than in all of the Bush years put together. Bottom line is the spending MUST STOP NOW! Murray and others was and is part of the problem and need to go regardless Democrat or Republican. Are to tired of Congress spending more and more and putting us in deeper debt with no way out?? Wait until this healthcare hits us all. As for the wars? Name me a war that WAS BUDGETED!!!! We were attacked and we HAD to respond back and i support Bushes decision to attack Afganistan and those responsible for killing 3000 on 9/11. As for Iraq i for one am glad Saddam is dead and gone and no longer a threat to the middle east and the world. If you love spending then Murray is for you. If not the look somewhere else!!

ruba61: As many have said, you are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. It is a fact that under the Bush administration, the budget went from several years of surplus to eight years of budget deficits culminating in a $1.3 trillion deficit. The Bush Administration used budget reconciliation to pass both of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy which placed $1.6 trillion onto the national debt. They never budgeted for the Afghanistan and Iraq wars which added at least $1 trillion onto the national debt and still counting. They passed a Medicare prescription bill without funding it which added over $ 300 billion to the national debt. They asked for and received $ 900 billion for the banking bailout. These items were major parts of the national debt increase from $5.73 trillion to $10.7 trillion during the Bush years. These are facts, not Republican diatribe! Only Republicans who can't face facts are tired of blaming Bush!

On healthcare, your children and grandchildren will see a reduction in paying for the $5.3 trillion that Bush added to the national debt and the 1.3 trillion budget deficits he left Obama with after inheriting three budget surpluses. And I suppose those death panels have you worried at your age.

I just knew we could count on a few Palin type supporters urging violence or at least violent metaphors for Democrat incumbents. Fact is, there are a lot of middle of the road types here in WA. As an independent, I think our Governor Gregoire is about as bad as the get, and that bar is pretty low as I look across the country. Murray's not my cup of tea, but Rossi, no thanks. He's proven inept again and again. I'll take the known incumbent first. And judging from some of the House representatives we have on the Republican side, there have been a few times I thought I woke up with my cousin in Arkansas or Mississippi. That's a total embarrassment. Tim for a few "normal" types to run for office. Then, maybe I'll have a real option. Otherwise, I'll keep the ones we have. Rossi's nothing but a losing retread.

Murray is not that good of senator but I don't those Republican candidates on record now (is Rossi running or not) aren't any better than her. Although not impressed by Senator Murray's record, I am less imprressed by Dino Rossi and his ceaseless quests for elective office. As far as I'm concerned Rossi burned his bridges when he wouldn't give up the chase in the 2004 gubernatorial election race against Christine Gregoire. It was potentially every bit as ugly as Al Gore's loss in his 2000 Presidencial bid. Had Gore simply managed to carry his home state of Tennessee all the hanging chads in the world wouldn't have mattered. I long for the days of Warren Magnuson and Henry M Jackson, but alas their time is now the fodder of history books. Even Senator Daniel Evans, a Republican no less, garnered my vote now and then, both as Governor and as US Senator. Whether the Republicans can settle and focus on one candidate is definitely an issue. Admittedly I live in the past, but things seemed better in those days. Color me a disgruntled Independent.

Never fear, Clark County to the rescue. The faster it grows the more Republican it gets. A lot of wealth business people have and are moving from Oregon across the Columbia River to escape the utter wasteland of economics and opportunity know as "Oregon". Successful, smart, motivated, people and regular middle class families have moved here by the 10,s of thousands and most of them are voters who tend to vote Republican. It is a moderate County but leans Republican. As Clark County supasses Spokane County in population in a few years, this may change some state polictical races.

It has the state's 4th largest city, Vancouver. Clark County will be a big factor in state races now because of how it has grown so much. Almost 450,000 people now. Murray and Cantwell are both a total embarrassment to the state of Washington. It's time we cleaned house, let's begin with Murray and continue to get the irresponsible representatives back to the private sector where they can't do as much damage. By the way, my dog's name is Maxwell, so if you want to write in his name, he'll service for dog treats and an occasional McDonald's cheeseburger.

Murray is toast!!! Put a fork in her!! Passing bills without reading them like the stimulus bill that threw billions of dollars away in wastful spending that my grandkids have to pay back and then forcing Obama care down out throats against the will of the people?? Oh and how about letting the 787 dreamliner second line head to SC after she said she was talking to Boeing at the time to keep it here!!! Ya, Boeing was listened to her alright!! Just another Obama lapdog that needs to go!! Any candidate would be far better in the Senate than that useless peice of work!! I don't know who i am voting for but i sure know i won't vote for her!!!!! TIME TO GO PATTY AND GET REAL REPRESENTATION IN WASHINGTON FOR US!!!

The poll is BS and you know it. King, Pierce and Thurston counties dictate who wins the election. If you were to poll those people in those counties, you would find Ms. Murry in a comfortable position. We understand that a close race would be great for your paper, but trying to create a story where is isn't one is another example of your slated stance on stories.
