SEATTLE – Pres. Barack Obama will make his first visit to Seattle as Commander-in-Chief next month to headline a fundraiser for Sen. Patty Murray.

Murray's office tells KING 5 the president will visit Aug. 17 – the day of Washington state's primary. Murray faces a tough challenge against Republican Dino Rossi. Both are expected to advance to November's general election.

The Seattle Times reports Obama will also talk about the economy during his visit.

No other details about the visit were released.

This is too funny. Obama is coming here to support democrats in the upcoming election? If I was a democrat, I wouldn't want anything to do with him right now. That's like jumping onto a sinking ship. Patty Murray is an idiot. It should be a farewell party for her. Hey Patty, can you say, "unemployment"?

I'm glad I live on the other side of the state for that very reason. We're getting no where with this clown in office..the tables will turn in November on all the liberal scum. I can't imagine too many people would have very many nice things to say when he comes to Seattle.

@bazwest, bush did lie. Where are the wepons of mass destruction? All of the uranium from Niger? Colin Powells 'mobile wepons labs? bush was just throwing everything against the wall to see what stuck. North Korea is much more oppresive than Iraq, but there is no oil in N. Korea. In the news this week: 8.7 billion of Iraqi oil money missing! Rumsfeld stated that the Iraqi oil money would pay for the war and reconstruction. Sadam was contained....bush was even thinking of painting a fighter jet with United Nations colors to justify an attack if all else failed. Can you say gulf of tonkien? UN inspectors were there getting access whereever they wanted, We evacuated them all before we went to shock and awe. The only people that are shocked and awed are the US taxpayer when they found out the monetary costs of the war was 'off budget' and, like the tax cuts, like Medicare part D....not paid for. Borrow and spend repubs.

@ rnl52, Obama has spent more in 1 and 1/2 years on his lies then Bush did defending our nation during 8 years. Obama is by far the worst "president" this nation has ever had. Failed foreign policy around the world, failed economy at home, failed at leading the military, failed at immigration reform (deporting illegals), failed stimulus spending, failed at having a transparent administration. His only sucess is surrounding himself with controversial and corrupt Czars and advisors and spitting on the Constitution. Sing the song - mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm, Obama lies, Obama lies, Obama lies, mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm!

rnl52 you assume that since I am disgusted with the Obama agenda and his rampant 'out of control 'spending that I was in favor of Bush's 'out of control 'spending? You are wrong again like usual. You, like all the other Obama groupies, have your head in the sand. You justify Obama's spending by saying that "Bush did it too." That is lemming reasoning. The fact is that Obama's spending is not turning around the economy, it is delaying the recovery; and worse yet, it is damaging our future prosperity. You can hang your hat on the stale old "Bush lied" rhetoric if you want about the war, but you and I both know it aint true. What Bush did was make a decision to go to war against an unstable and threatening dictator that had violated at least 7 international security council resolutions and denied the entry of UN inspectors whom would have assuaged the perception that war was needed.

@bazwest, financing debt with forign money? Thats how bush financed the war he lied us into. We borrow money from China to pay for his two tax cuts for the rich, then you pay the intrest on it, and your children pay the principle. You should look at the debt run up over the last decade, that was repub. debt., you don't have a grip on reality.

We were comming out of Seattle when Bush came thru. We just barely made it onto I-5 before the blockade. We had the whole highway to our selves till we saw the black limo convoy. KC Sheriff got in front of us to stop us from going by the over pass just as he was pulling off to goto Boeing Field. Was kinda fun but not a big deal. Let me know where Obama will be and I'll make sure to avoid the area!

juneb, I must conclude you are ignorant or simply in denial (or maybe it is the medicinal marijuana). At any rate In the last two years the democratic administration and democratic congress have weakened our nation and our fiscal sovereignty by financing the largest national debt in the history of our country with foreign money. They have forwarded a radial socialist agenda as they took steps to take over the health care industry and reduce patient and doctor choice. Unemployment has skyrocketed in the face of failed fiscal policy and corporate bailouts. The 'entitlement mentality' has taken a firmer foot hold as the unemployed have grown used to living on government handouts. The American dream is in serious danger with the failed policies of the democratic administration and the democratic congress.

They just chose to use the commander-in-chief wording instead. @livefreeordie... warmonger??? WHat are you smoking? That was Bush, Jr. We are out of Iraq mostly and yes, he did add 30k troops to afghan because we are already committed to that operation, started by Bush mind you, and to help protect the troops that are already there. I think you are the collossal a-hole. Hey, I don't agree with every thing he has done but he sure has been better than Bush ever was and considering the quality of the current crop of the GOP, I will stick with even the worst democrat until those crazy, ignorant, whiney, backstabbing, worthless members of the right wing GOP and Tea Parties are gone. And as already pointed out, Bush ignored intelligence that said 9-11 was going to happen beforehand. His inaction is criminal and was done solely to dupe the american public into believing we needed to go to war in Iraq... so he could make his oil buddies billions of dollars. Also all the Republican leaders that profess "family values" and are homophobic yet have gotten "caught" with young men, and then there are the ones who have cheated on their wives and are still in office, they too proclaim that they have "family values". I know there are Dems who have cheated on their wives also, but they have all resigned office as soon as it has come out. As for 911....again read the facts: Bush was warned numerous times (this has been proven in a court of law) about Bin Laden making an attack on the US, the last one coming less than a week before 911. Thank heavens my husband has a job that covers our expenses or we'd have lost everything back then! My brother seperated from the Army about the same time as my job ended and lives here. He hasn't been able to find a job to support his familly either. His wife was a LEGAL IMMIGRANT who took her oath as a U.S. citizen last summer. @jayemdub, the reason you are hanging on by the skin of your teeth is that for 22 out of the past 30 years you have elected repubs. that lie us into wars (not paid for, funded by emergency resoloutions, off the books) give tax cuts to the rich (not paid for, and didn't create the jobs we were told would follow) passed Medicare part D (forcing Americans to pay top dollar for their meds (not paid for) Clinton is the only president in the past 30 years to balance the budget, but it didn't do much good when followed by a "borrow and spend" repub., you guys are not exactly the example I would cite for living within your means. Better turn off that rockin' faux and get some boring facts. @minnie52.....you rock!

I envy you spacedover because if you have gotten taxes put on you by Obama, then you are in the top 2% of wage earners in this country. The other 98% of us have gotten tax cuts. I do payroll and know that 1 month after he was in office 98% of us got a cut in our witholding taxes, so again i envy you your $250,000 salary! Ask your repub friends what is happening to the jobs..... they just voted down ANOTHER jobs bill today.....that makes how many so far????? Lots!!!

The only 'jobs' this administration has 'created' are more government jobs! Now, even the thousands of census taker 'jobs' are coming to a close. I'm not listening to 'fear mongering' I'm living life in Washington State, in the real world. And, there are NO jobs worth a hoot available and there are no benefits with the jobs that are. Small business continues to struggle and more than not, shut their doors. These self employed folks are NOT counted in the unemployment data, so unemployment not only continues to decline, too many people out of work or under employed are not even factored in. Just 'hanging on to the skin of your teeth' is not MY idea of prosperity. FOX news rocks and they are the only truth sayers out there.

rrbzm....yes he is taking a vacation in August, as are all the Senate and House, it has been policy in Washington DC for years (look it up). Also he has taken 32 days or so in the 18 months he has been in office. Bush took 96 or so in the same time frame....that was OK though I guess???? Think for yourself, don't let the hate and fear FIXED news do your thinking for you.....

rrbzm....yes he is taking a vacation. In his first 18 months he has had 32 days off.....Bush had 96 in the same amount of time, but that was OK wasn't it....you should do a little research before you start throwing stones. Also you might try thinking for yourself instead of letting the hate and fear FOX news people do your thinking for you.....

I'm glad to see this dude is taking another vacation. The more vacations he takes the less taxes he will try to pass on to us. When do I get to vote this space cat out of office. He is making poor old Carter look like decent as a president. Oh by the way what happened to the jobs and don't blame Bush on this one.

I heard that he was going on another vacation Aug. 14 to end of August where he went about a month ago up where the Kennedy's live. Oh yes, and he said he would during that time make a trip to the GULF. How thoughtful of him.

PS: as for the jobs...again use the "internets" and look up who has been voting AGAINST all the jobs bills (even the one today that would have funded $$ for jobs among them helping teenagers get summer jobs)....take some time and really research and see all of your Republican "friends" who have voted against all of the jobs bills. Please, I'm not being mean, I am just trying to get you to do some research and find out what is REALLY happening to the jobs bills.....

It's too bad you people don't live in Washington but are making comments on this blog. If you lived in Washington, you would know everything Patty Murray has done for this state, especially our vets....you should use "the google" on the "internets"......why do you think our state has been one of the ones that hasn't been as hard hit during this bad economy? We have a big variety of BIG companies in this state that are keeping us viable and competitive. Who do you think has worked to get it this way?? Look at who voted AGAINST Boeing for the tanker and who has fought tooth and nail to get it awarded to Boeing. Use your brains and think about this state. I know that may be hard for most of you because you are just listening to the hate and fear mongers.....

And a BIG whoopty doo to that! All I can say to Patty is why the heck would you want him campaigning for you? You are already behind in the polls - Obamination is only going to secure a loss for you this time....I HOPE!
