Eight candidates are running to represent the newly drawn 1st congressional district, a seat that covered part of the Kitsap Peninsula, the nortwestern parts of King County and southern parts of Snohomish County. The new district, created after the 2010 Census, is dramatically different, stretching from the Canadian border south to Everett and much of Snohomish County.
Rep. Jay Inslee (D), the current 1st District congressman, is leaving the House to run for governor this year.

Burner has spent the past few years in D.C. heading a progressive advocacy group, after running twice against Dave Reichert (in 2006 and 2008) for the 8th District. Her two campaigns gave her name recognition and a fundraising base, and she says her time in D.C. has given her an understanding of Congress.

Del Bene spent the past 13 months as Washington Department of Revenue director and ran against Dave Reichert for the 8th District in 2010. Del Bene has some campaign experience under her belt, and as former CEO of a startup, she presents herself as a candidate who actually has created jobs.

Goodman is an environmental lawyer and a Washington state Representative who says climate change is his top priority. Also on his issues list: Ending marijuana prohibition.
STEVE HOBBS | hobbsforcongress.com
Hobbs is a Washington state Senator and a member of the "roadkill" caucus, a group of centrist Democrats. Hobbs says his ability to work with both sides of the aisle makes him the perfect person for Congress at this divisive time.

Rauniyar, an immigrant from Nepal who started his own business selling flash drives to drug and grocery stores, is making his first run for office. As an entrepreneur, Rauniyar says he understands how to create jobs and has a nine-point plan for education.

Ruderman served three terms in the Washington state House and was a former candidate for Secretary of State. After time away from the public eye -- she got married, raised children and volunteered for schools and community organizations -- Ruderman says she brings a new perspective and is looking to make a return to politics.

Koster is a Snohomish County Councilman and former state Representative, who ran twice (2000 and 2010) against Rick Larsen for the 2nd District seat. Now, the Arlington native is running for the more rural 1st District and says it’s time to reign back government, especially regulations that are overly burdensome.

Ishmael ran twice against Congressman Jay Inslee in the 1st District, getting 32 percent of the vote both times (2006 and 2008). He touts his experience with the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and Issaquah School District.
