SEATTLE – Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz says he is not looking to run for president following an op-ed last week that suggested he might be chosen as a third party candidate.
A group called Americans Elect wants to put its own candidate on the presidential ballot in all 50 states. It plans to hold an online, nationwide nomination to which anyone can contribute. It will then select a presidential nominee followed by a vice-presidential nominee from a different party.
In an opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times, Schultz’s name was mentioned as a possible candidate. Schultz made headlines when he called on fellow moguls to stop contributing to politicians.
Seattlepi.com reports that when Schultz was asked Monday if he was looking to run for office, his response was simply “No, no.”
