OLYMPIA, Wash. Thursday's court ruling that state lawmakers have failed to make funding schools a priority, did not surprise legislators.

"I absolutely agree with the court," said Rep. Ross Hunter, R-Medina.

The Chair of the Senate's Education Committee said the decision could help convince legislators, and the public, that more needs to be done to fund schools.

"That's really what we needed," said Senator Rosemary McAuliffe, D-Bothell, "We needed to be pushed by the courts to do that."

Sen. McAuliffe does not know if school funding reforms will require new taxes, but she said, "It provides us an opportunity to go out to the public and take the case to them."

Representative Skip Priest, R-Federal Way, said he thinks the state has enough money to solve the problem without raising taxes.

"I think the better judgment is to utilize the resources we have to meet our constitutional responsibility," said Rep. Priest.

Since the legislators are not surprised, then why didn't they do something about this years ago? As they didn't, and are not surprised, then let them pay for the additional funds necessary. The WA State taxpayers have been burdened with enough debt by irresponsible legislators, judges, school districts and teachers, to last several generations. Let them all, every last one oft hem, teachers, legislators, judges, and all other "Public Servants", be paid on the merits of the product they produce, only, as are all other professionals, or redefine them as blue-collar Union labor only. Heck, even blue-collar workers are paid on the results of the work. What makes these people so special?

I am glad to hear they are not surprised by the ruling, just one question. Why haven't they fixed it?

When are we going to figure this out. Local school districts negotiate and set salaries and hand the state the bill. Maybe it is time for the state to get education under control. Do we really need this many independent school distircts with this many high paid district leaders?

when the Washington State lottery first start over 20 years ago, it was to help fund the schools, I want to know how much of the lottery do they really get.

The state needs to do some SERIOUS CUTS in funding for Judges salaries. These activist idiots need to be encouraged to go somewhere else. We are Taxed Enough Already!
