If President Barack Obama wins a second term in the White House, outgoing Washington Governor Chris Gregoire could join his cabinet, according to a column in the National Journal.
George E. Condon, Jr. writes that Gregoire would be a likely replacement as Secretary of the Interior if Ken Salazar steps down.
“The department, which oversees oil and gas drilling—and also conservation—on the nation’s 700 million acres of public lands, is traditionally run by a governor or senator from a Western state,” writes Condon. “(Gregoire) supports the president’s progressive clean-energy and climate-change agenda, and has pushed policies to move her state off coal-fired electricity.”
The National Journal’s Jim O’Sullivan writes about who might end up in a Mitt Romney cabinet, although nobody with apparent Washington state ties are noted.
