Goveror Christine Gregoire will present her budget next Monday, she told KING 5 News, and at the same time, lay out her plan to raise revenue and avoid some of the most drastic cuts.

“Democrats and Republicans alike have said to me, these cuts are going to cut too deep, they’re going to cut into the bone, this is not what we want for our future, we need to look at alternatives for revenue,” Gregoire said.

The governor says she’s still reviewing all the possibilities, which could include higher taxes or fees.

“If we’re going to raise some sort of revenue that’s significant, I just don’t think the legislature should do it, I think it should turn to the voters and ask them what they want,” she says.

Meanwhile, a new KING 5 poll finds state residents are not necessarily excited about raising taxes, despite the threat of serious budget cuts. When asked if the state should raise taxes to reduce the impact of the governor’s proposed cuts, 64 percent said the state should not raise taxes, while 27 percent said they’d support a tax increase.

The KING 5/SurveyUSA poll found Republicans most strongly against a tax increase (83 percent opposed), compared to Democrats who were split (43 percent opposed vs. 44 percent support).  The poll of 500 statewide adults, has a margin of +/- 4.3 percent.

A new revenue forecast for the state comes out on Thursday; legislators return for a special session on November 28.

I don't know why the governor thinks I have any more money to give her. I already pay more in property taxes than I did three years ago when my house was worth a lot more. Business is down, my income is most certainly NOT up! I don't have any more money to give you!

She doesn't get it now and never has. They continue to cut publicly visible programs while waste continues. Their solution - we need more money. The real solution - stop spending.

Wow, Gov Chris the voters have already said what they want and it's not any more taxes thats for certain. I know what your doing. Your not running for re-election and your next job will be some kind of time killing appointment in the Obama administration because you did deliver Washington State to him when he was running for president. But new taxes won't cut it and it could throw everyone of those Democrats out of the legislature next election. Instead of kicking kids and old folks to the curb why don't you look at waste in government of which there is millions if not billions and state worker pensions. I know, I know you always come back with "we can't touch them, it's the law". Well the legislature that made that law can change that law and thats what needs to happen. To raise taxex so that some gov employee can keep their outrageous pensions and perks is a non starter.

I say cut the programs even deeper, and stop all the wastefull spending. The GOV. just doesn't get it. We don't have any more money to give to those that just set around with their hands out and say where's my money,( Hey lady I'm broke.) As for the word (revenue), just use the word TAXES. Because that's what it is and they want more taxes to blow like a drunken sailor on Saturday night.
