Olympia, Wash -- A choice has been made in the replacement for retiring Republican state Sen. Bob Morton.

Farmer and businessman John Smith of Colville was chosen by the county commissioners on Friday. Smith will finish the remaining two years of Morton's term for the state's 7th Legislative District.

On Tuesday, Morton retired after serving 22 years.  Smith is a former president of the Coville Chamber of Commerce and currently is serving as chairman of the chamber's business development committee.

Currently, Smith and his wife run a produce farm and cattle ranch in Eastern Washington.
