RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — After an expensive and rancorous campaign, the candidates for governor in Virginia are making their closing arguments.

Democrat Creigh Deed is stopping in several Democratic strongholds and his hometown Monday as he tries to rally the party faithful and cut into Republican Bob McDonnell's big lead.

Polls over the final week show Deeds trailing McDonnell by a minimum of 11 points and as many as 18, a margin that will hinge on Tuesday's turnout.

McDonnell is jetting from city to city and plans seven stops in the final day of campaigning before the election.
