SANTA CRUZ, California -- The humongous fins and tails of two humpback whales came within feet of flopping down upon a kayaker in California's Seabright State Park Thursday.
A single picture shows kayaker Alan Brady in awe of the two breaching whales next to him as they poked nearly the entire upper halves of their massive bodies out of the water.
Photographer Paul Schraub captured the image from a nearby boat while taking pictures for the
Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors Council.
Brady said the whales were so close to him he was forced to duck out of fear that their tails might hit him. He wasn't harmed.
According to NBC, whales have reportedly been very active in the area over the last week, feeding on anchovies.
