A hard-working, four-legged member of the Hoquiam Police Department who has made 56 captures over his career is battling cancer.
Enno, an eight-year veteran of the K-9 unit, has a malignant tumor behind his left eye.
Enno served as a commissioned officer with a badge and "arrest" powers as an integral part of the department. He also helped with community outreach, participating in canine demonstrations and school visits.
"I think we received as much positive public relations with Enno as captures," Police Chief Jeff Myers said.
Sergeant Jeff Salstrom, Enno's partner, is overseeing treatment for the dog, which includes pallative radiation to ease the Enno's symptoms. However, long-term prognosis for Enno isn't good.
Even as Enno's condition worsens, he still walks to the patrol car every morning, ready to go to work.
