DARRINGTON - On Highway 530, large construction equipment is being moved in to  clear debris off the road connecting Oso and Darrington. Work crews are set to start the long process of re-opening the highway.

Darrington logging company owner Brian Roggenbuck started an online petition to keep local companies involved in the process.
He wants Darrington and Oso workers to play an active role in the landslide recovery.

"We were out there from the beginning and we've got the skill set,” said Roggenbuck. “Some of us were out there for 28 days straight so we know how to search that material,"

The Washington State Department of Transportation recently awarded the contract to Ferndale company IMCO General Construction, which bid just under $5 million to complete the job.

A transportation official said the state is working with IMCO to find qualified local workers to fill any job vacancies. There will also be a need for spotters who will help look for victims.

Roggenbuck said his number one priority is finding the two victims who are still missing.

"We would like to finish what we started and return those last two people to their families," said Roggenbuck.

By Saturday, his petition had nearly 900 signatures.
