Kent police say an officer was forced to open fire after a fleeing suspect drove at the officer.
It happened just before midnight Thursday in an industrial area along East Valley Highway.
Police say officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle when the driver attempted to get away and parked in a business parking lot. An officer located the vehicle and confronted the suspect.
The suspect allegedly tried to get away by driving at the officer and colliding with his patrol vehicle.
The officer opened fire, police said. The suspect eventually crashed into some trees.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Seattle man, was arrested along with two others in the vehicle. Firefighters treated the victims for injuries from the crash. Police gave no indication that anyone had been shot.
The officer was hit by the vehicle during the confrontation and has minor injuries. The 16-year veteran was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure when an officer fires their weapon.
