While Obama’s second inauguration ceremony is just around the corner, recent polls suggest Americans have lowered their expectations since the president’s first swearing in.
Only 35 percent of America thinks the country is headed in the right direction, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Today, Obama’s approval rating stands at 52 percent. While his likeability currently rates at 61 percent, only 29 percent of Americans think he’s working effectively with Congress.
Since Nixon, second terms for presidents have seemed to gotten off to rough starts. George W. Bush was plagued by Iraq and Hurricane Katrina early in his second term, Clinton’s is remembered by his impeachment scandal, and now, amid prepration for celebration, the new Obama term starts with budget confrontation, as the president tries to win a looming debt ceiling battle.
KING 5 will air the inauguration ceremony live Monday at 9 a.m.
