When you think of Sesame Street's Elmo, you think of warm fuzzy hugs, getting kids to eat vegetables, and singing happy songs. Not Elmo swearing and cursing everyone in his path.
A guy dressed up as Elmo has been recently ranting in Central Park, yelling anti-Semitic slurs, railing against Hindus and generally using lots of foul language around large crowds of people.
"That is the scariest Elmo I've ever seen in my life," said one witness.
It was such a weird sight that everyone was stopping to shoot videos and take pictures. Among them was Kathleen Loftus.
"You know people didn't want their kids to see that coming from Elmo," she said.
It's apparently been going on for months, documented by videos posted to YouTube.
But often, minutes after his rants, Elmo cozies up to some unsuspecting kid. Characters pose, mostly with tourists, for money. And there are good Elmos out there. So how do you tell the good Elmos from the bad Elmo? Look for a bag and kneepads.
But this weekend, the ruckus he caused prompted police to handcuff him. As police led him away, the crowd cheered.
Loftus whipped out her camera in time to capture is big red feet seen from the back of the ambulance.
