PHOENIX (AP) — Federal Aviation Administration records show a pilot who crashed an experimental airplane in the Arizona desert had two previous accidents.
According to the FAA, 63-year-old Charles T. Blanchette twice had his license revoked for violations discovered during accident investigations.
In each case, the FAA said it determined that Blanchette carelessly and recklessly operated the aircraft.
Gila River authorities rescued Blanchette Wednesday after he was trapped for about eight hours in the experimental plane wreckage.
Authorities say Blanchette radioed the Glendale Airport Wednesday morning, saying the home-built Varieze (very-ease) was experiencing power failure and was going down about 25 miles southeast of Glendale.
