TUKWILA, Wash. - A Puget Sound yarn distributor is accusing its chief competitor of a deception that will set knitters atwitter. The company has filed a lawsuit in Seattle federal court claiming that New York based Knitting Fever Incorporated has been lying about putting cashmere in its yarn.

As the hand-knitting market boomed, Tukwila-based Cascade Yarns became suspicious because KFI could offer a yarn with an expensive cashmere blend at a lower price.

"Their most popular product was Debbie Bliss Cashmerino," says Robert Dunbabin, whose family owns Cascade Yarn.

Debbie Bliss is a knitting rock-star who tossed out the opening pitch at a Mariners game last season. Since the Debbie Bliss name and cashmere, a luxurious animal hair, don't come cheap, Cascade Yarns had their competitor’s product sent to a lab.

“Who tested the yarn and came back with a report that said it had no cashmere," says Dunbabin.

Cascade has filed suit in Seattle federal court claiming KFI's spinning a yarn that undermines its cashmere competitors and misleads consumers, who pay more for cashmere products.

"I imagine if you tell your wife you bought her cubic zironcium instead of a diamond, you could see what her response would be," says Dunbabin

In an email to KING 5 News, KFI President Sion Elalouf said, “It's our general policy not to comment on matters in litigation and all we can say is that we deny the allegations and are vigorously defending against them."

stryker: It's news to the thousands and thousands of crafts people who shelled out hard-earned money and paid a premium for cashmere yarn that doesn't have any cashmere in it. Checked the price of cashmere lately?
