TACOMA, Wash. -- A car went over an embankment in Point Defiance Park in Tacoma with two people inside Thursday afternoon.
The car went over a cliff on the side of the park that borders the Narrows, and landed about 150 feet down the cliff.
Tacoma Fire said rescuers extricated a 74-year-old woman and a 72-year-old woman who were trapped inside the car. They were removed from the vehicle and transported to area hospitals in stable condition.
Crews are investigating, but initial reports indicate the driver missed the turn and went off the cliff.
The 5 mile drive in Point Defiance Park will be closed all night as crews repair the fence.
