Sheriff injured in motocycle crash recovering at Seattle rehab center

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Thurston County Sheriff's Office in Washington state said Sheriff John Snaza is recovering at a Seattle rehabilitation center after he was hurt in a Montana motorcycle crash last month.

Authorities said Snaza was taken to the rehabilitation clinic at Harborview Medical Center on Tuesday, where he will undergo evaluations for treatment. He was previously being treated at a hospital in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The 51-year-old sheriff suffered life-threatening injuries during an off-duty motorcycle crash Aug. 23. He was traveling with friends in Sanders County, Montana, when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson while going around a curve.

Snaza suffered a punctured lung, a lacerated kidney, a broken left arm and a damaged right hand. He's also undergone a successful surgery to fuse a bone in his neck.
