Thursday Seahawks gameday traffic, parking to be bad

SEATTLE -- Changes to the area around CenturyLink Field could mean big traffic backups for Thursday night's nationally-televised game between the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers.

The NFL Kickoff concert featuring Pharrell and Seattle-based Soundgarden is happening in the north parking lot of the stadium, reducing parking capacity by around 1,000 spaces. The game will start during rush hour when Seattle traffic is already moving slow out of downtown.

The Seahawks are urging fans to leave an hour earlier than they normally would for this game. Team officials also encourage you to buy train tickets ahead of time and be sure to purchase a round-trip ticket. Fans riding Link light rail or the bus should exit at Stadium Station to walk to the south side of Century Link Field. For easier access to the concert, exit at the Pioneer Square station.

If you are attending the game and want to see the concert, you are encouraged to watch the performance on the big screens from your seat in the stadium.

The Seahawks have posted more information on their website.

Thursday's concert and game will air live on KING 5 starting at 4:30 p.m. Watch KING 5 News throughout the day Thursday for live coverage from CenturyLink Field.
