SEATTLE - Tech experts are the authors of a new report, proposing a driverless car lane on I-5. They say it’s a way to reduce accidents and congestion while improving travel and productivity.
The report by the Madrona Venture Group says their plan would roll out in phases. At first, self-driving cars would share the HOV lanes. Eventually, HOV lanes would be exclusively for autonomous vehicles. Then in 10-15 years, autonomous vehicles would be the most common vehicles on I-5.
“We are letting machines build everything, and build cars, and now we are letting them drive them,” said one commuter who wonders, in our car culture, if people will be able to make this kind of shift.
