Gambling commission investigates alleged cockfighting in Rochester

Multiple agencies are investigating alleged cockfighting in Thurston County.

The Washington State Gambling Commission launched the investigation due to multiple complaints of cockfighting at 17948 Danby Drive SW in Rochester.

On Monday morning, officials with the Gambling Commission, along with deputies from the Thurston County Sheriff's Office and Thurston County Animal control served a search warrant on the property.

Officials say there were about 300 birds in a large building.

So far, there have been no arrests.

The investigation is expected to continue through Tuesday.

Cockfighting is illegal in all 50 states.

The Humane Society of the United States offers rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person involved in illegal animal fighting. Anyone with information about animal fighting is asked to call 877-TIP-HSUS (847-4787). Tipsters identities will be protected.
