Soccer community gathers for "Bring Austin Home" vigil

Austin Kelley was in Idaho with friends, fishing in the river, when he was caught by the current. Search crews have not been able to find him.

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Olympia’s soccer community along with family and friends of Austin Kelley filled Ingersoll Stadium on Wednesday night. Kelley, 26, is a husband and new dad. He was been missing since Sunday.

Kelley was last seen attempting to swim across the Salmon River in Idaho on Sunday when he was caught by a current and pulled under, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.  In a press release, the Sheriff’s office says Kelley was not wearing a life jacket, and his friends tried, but were unable to rescue him.

Idaho County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, family, and friends continue to search for him.

At the vigil, friends sported soccer t-shirts in honor of the sport Kelley has always loved. He has played for several soccer teams. He’s Olympia High School’s assistant soccer coach.

At the end of the evening, Austin’s parents thanked everyone for their support.
