A St. Charles County man was too sick to fly to Kentucky today to join his wife who is dying.
As their story has spread internationally, Dalton and Katie Prager are often referred to as the "Fault in Our Stars Couple", a reference to the novel and movie about two teenage cancer patients who fell in love.
Dalton's mom, Renee Strausner says the movie is nothing compared to their real life.
“You shouldn't have to worry about burying your children before you,” she said.
Yet Strausner knows that soon her 26-year-old daughter-in-law Katie Prager will die.
It's the reason her son Dalton desperately wants to leave his St. Louis hospital bed to join Katie in Kentucky.
“They were waiting to take flight this morning when he took a turn for the worse,” she said.

“My jaw dropped and I was almost in tears,” Strausner said.
The young couple is dealing with a variety of health issues. Katie has cancer, liver failure and heart problems. Dalton is plagued by lymphoma and pneumonia.
“He may not have a whole lot longer himself at the rate he's been going,” Strausner said.
A lovesick son and a determined mom are racing the clock for a Kentucky reunion.
“Katie is his love and that's all he has cared about is being with her,” Strausner said. “My main goal as mom is to get him there to see her.”
