Local authors to visit independent Seattle bookstores in Indies First tour

SEATTLE – More than two dozen local authors will be selling and signing books Saturday, November 26 in support of independent bookstores.

The idea, first thought up three years ago by local author Sherman Alexie, is now called “Indies First” and happens at bookstores all across the country. Saturday marks the first time local writers will visit three Seattle retailers by riding a bus.

“Independent bookstores have independent thought, independent politics,” Alexie said. “They're not prone to national trends. They're really an independent social, political, and artistic force, and that's why we need them.”

Here are the stores and times for tomorrow’s “Indies First” tour:

12-1 p.m. Third Place Books Seward Park, 5041 Wilson Avenue South, Seattle
2-3 p.m. University Book Store, 4326 University Way Northeast, Seattle
4-5 p.m. Elliott Bay Book Company, 1521 10th Avenue, Seattle
