La Conner man calls Standing Rock home

Ace Baker and his family live in La Conner, but he considers the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota his home.

Hundreds of people who are protesting an oil pipeline in North Dakota say they're not backing down. A La Conner man, who grew up very close to where the demonstrations are happening, will soon join them.

“American Indians are tied to this land, we are the keepers of this land,” said Ace Baker.

He and his family live in La Conner, but he considers the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation his home. Baker has been watching the Dakota Access Pipeline demonstrations closely.

“Hard to see that, hard to look on Facebook and see pictures and posts of my family that are there on the front lines,” Baker said.

“I'm very proud of my people,” he said, “those are my people out there protecting us right now, and I'm going next week to join them.”
