Kirkland, Sammamish among 'best small cities' in the U.S.

Kirkland and Sammamish have been ranked as two of the best small cities in the United States.

A recent study by WalletHub has found that both cities rank in the 99th percentile on 33 indictors, including affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life, and safety. 

Sammamish ranked 14th while Kirkland ranked 15th in the nation when all the metrics were added together. Kirkland scored highest on economic health, which is made up of scores concerning the level of population growth, income growth, unemployment rate, share of the population living below the poverty level and debt per median earning. Sammmamish's best score was on safety, which is based upon the property and violent crime rate. 

The study compared more than 1,200 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000.

Three other Washington cities, Puyallup, Olympia and Bellingham, also received an honor. They ranked among the five top cities with the most coffee shops per capita.
