From hero to heroin and back: Former NBA Player seeks to reduce youth drug abuse

Former NBA player Chris Herren was at Ballard High Thursday to talk to local high school students about his rise and fall due to drugs.

He was a high school All-American, NBA player, and drug addict.

Today, Chris Herren is sober, and telling his story in hopes of avoiding similar stories.

Herren played for the Boston Celtics, all while battling heroin addiction. Now he’s eight years sober, pushing an effort called “drop them off,” an effort to limit youth prescription drug youth.
