Family kicked off flight over son's allergies arrives home

The Alvarado family's story went viral. Passengers applauded after they were asked to leave a flight due to their son's allergies. His father has terminal cancer.

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Alvarado family is back home in Arizona after being kicked off a plane in Bellingham because of their son's allergy.

Jorge Alvarado has terminal cancer and was with his wife and son on a bucket list trip to the Northwest. On the return trip home, Giovanni, 7, had an allergic reaction to dogs on the plane.

The flight was delayed to deal with Giovanni's reaction. Flight attendants on the original flight were accommodating at first and allowed them to change seats to stay away from the animals on board. They came back later to ask Alvarado and his family to get off the plane.

"I'm sad this has to be a memory of my dad," said Giovanni.

After the family's story went viral online, support from Phoenix to Seattle poured in.

"It's bothered me all day that the ordeal that this family went through. That little boy is a hero whether he knows it or not," said one person who approached the family after they landed at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport Wednesday night.

Jorge doesn't want people to feel sorry for him. Rather, he wants the ordeal to serve as a reminder to everyone.

"That's a slap in the face, that's what I felt," he said. "Have respect for others because you never know what someone is going through."
