Community grants wish for teen with life-threatening condition

A Maple Valley auto shop restored a Chevy Malibu for 18-year-old Damian Taylor, who has a life-threatening cardiac condition.

COVINGTON, Wash. – When 18-year-old Damian Taylor wanted to buy his first car, he knew he’d have to work for it.

He saved up his money to buy his own Chevy Malibu with the intention of restoring it. But the young man faced a massive hurdle, his health.

Taylor was diagnosed with a life-threatening cardiac condition. He has had to undergo 23 surgeries, and he will eventually need a heart transplant.

During this difficult time, mechanics at Automotive Experts caught wind of Taylor's wish, and they decided to restore the car for him. They spent 600 hours restoring the car for him. Friday afternoon, they surprised him with the finish product, done ahead of schedule and at no cost to Taylor.

“This is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me,” said Taylor.

He traveled with family and friends from Lopez Island for his Make-A-Wish experience.
