City Light warns against scam callers

Seattle City Light is warning customers about a scam that’s swept the country.

City Light says customers have recently received calls from scammers posing as utility employees and threatening to shut down service if payment is not made immediately. City Light says the callers use a phony company caller ID.

The callers seem to target elderly, non-English speaking customers and business owners.

If you suspect a caller is a scammer, hang up. Customers can also verify the legitimacy of the caller by asking the amount of their last two meter reads or their last two bill amounts.

If this happens to you, report to incident to City Light’s Customer Care Center at (206) 684-3000 as well as the Seattle Police Department at (206) 625-5011.
