BOTHELL, Wash. -- Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating if weather caused an early morning head-on crash on I-405.

Troopers said a woman drove four miles in the wrong direction on the snow-covered highway and collided with a man in Bothell. Both drivers suffered serious injuries.

"It was just one of those things that it happened so fast. But you could almost see that it was going to happen and sure enough, he hit her and they they just didn't avoid each other. There was no avoiding it," said a driver, who witnessed the collision.

The collision briefly blocked traffic, but the road has since been cleared.

Troopers are also investigating whether alcohol was a factor.

KING 5's Jake Whittenberg contributed to this report.

@mrmnikon0921... he did specify the IDIOTS, if you don't think you are one of them, then the his comments don't apply to you. That is unless you think @uwlvdawg was referring to you and those like you.

@invalid....He didn't specify who. He said IDIOTS out in the snow. Yes, I was out there because I go to work at 4am. And, why are you concerned about my remark?

Why are we still dealing with wrong way drivers on the freeways when the solution has been available for years? Almost ALL parking garages use them everyday, and that is, the grates that fold down if you drive over them the right way and puncture your tires if drive over them the wrong way. EVERY EXIT ramp on the freeway system should be equipt with one, and the cost would be MINIMAL compared to the lives they would save! WHY is it taking so long to do this? How many more must die before these are installed on ALL freeways?

Let's just face it. Many Americans are stupid and can't figure things out, drunk or sober.

@mrmnikon0921: First off, uwlvdawg wasn't saying anything about people who need to drive to work. Second, if we're talking about people who can't even figure out how to drive on the freeway, I don't think I want them in jobs that can affect me. And why are you concerned about it anyway? Do you resemble that remark?

Weather didn't cause that dumb a--- to drive the wrong way on the freeway. Come on give me a break. Only an earth muffin could come up with an excuse like that for someone that almost killed somebody. Why don't we try drugs? Failing that how about good old booze? You can't naturally be that stupid and if in deed you are that stupid you should have your license and your vehicle taken away.

Hey uwlvdawg! Some of those "IDIOTS" have to go to work...Gas stations, electric companies, cable company, police, etc. What would you do if nobody went to work just because it snowed? You wouldn't be able to post your uneducated, ill-informed comment.

"He hit her" said a driver, who witnessed the collision. Who was driving the WRONG direction? How can you say it was the guy's fault, he wasn't driving in the wrong direction!

how are these people getting a license to drive. does anyone check them out to see if they can actually drive and navigate. drivers should only get one strike for this type of screw up and then lose all driving privileges forever - if they don't just get killed.

Probably drunk or on drugs. The night before last I was heading west on Dearborn and just in front of me a car which had come down the ramp from north bound I 5 turned HARD left and started driving west in the east bound lanes. It took them about four locks to realize that the right curb is sure a LONG ways over on the right.

Obviously the weather was at fault. I am sure the weather turned all the signs backwards, took all the wrong way signs away, and sure as heck made all those cars, for 4 miles, going the wrong way. I can only picture it in my mind, a vehicle going the wrong way for 4 miles, dodging cars, and thinking that all those other vehicles are going the wrong way. YUP - better check for alcohol.

southlakeunion--If you can't read a big sign that say" Do Not Enter" and you can't notice all the freeway signs you are passing are backwards to you. Headlights are coming towards, you should not be driving!

Troopers are also investigating whether alcohol was a factor...... You think.....daaaa How could anyone drive the wrong way on a freeway and not be DUI?

This is too easy to do... why are there no lights or warnings other than a sign saying "do not enter"? Seems like a very passive way to get the point across in a potentially deadly situation.

How can this possibly be "weather related" how about alcohol related.
