BELLEVUE, Wash. -  A driver that took the wrong ramp into oncoming traffic on Interstate 90 at Bellevue didn't get far.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver of an older model Toyota Corolla, heading westbound, entered the eastbound lanes of the freeway from 142nd at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. A short distance later, his car struck a truck that was picking up barrels at a road construction project.

"It was almost a head-on," said WSP Sergeant J.P. McAuliffe. "The construction truck was moving. They were in the process of picking up their construction barrels in the left, eastbound lanes of I-90. The wrong-way driver was headed right for her but, luckily, the construction driver was on her toes and she swerved right to avoid the head-on collision and the wrong-way driver hit the side of her construction truck."

Rescuers had to cut the top off the car to pull out the driver. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of unknown injuries. His condition has not been released. The driver of the construction truck was not injured.

"We were very luckily because if the construction truck hadn't been here who knows how long he would have traveled in the wrong-way lane," said McAuliffe.

McAuliffe says the man said, "I think I had too much to drink."

It's really easy to get confused while driving drunk. The giant WRONG WAY signs are for "Other people" who don't know how the world really works.

Spikes on the off ramps? Sure, great idea.....I brought that up to miss Hammond of the DOT, and after a few emails...no further response, and the idea was swept under the rug. That same week that i decided it was not even worth the time, some jerk gets on the highway going the WRONG WAY, and kills somebody. Gee, Thanks Paula, for doing so much to save lives on our highways. THIS TIME......nobody was killed

Wait a minute, now we're hitting the front of the construction trucks too? What is this? Target practice? I see a potential market for reflective orange bubblewrap...

I still think they should put spikes on off ramps so anyone who enters the freeway going the wrong way will blow their tires and won't get too far. Problem solved!!!

The driver thinks he had too much to drink? Thank goodness that he didn't injure or kill anyone else.
