BELLEVUE, Wash. – A 70-year-old Bellevue resident standing at a metro bus stop was struck by a car that crossed the center line and went over the curb.

The accident happened Friday afternoon at about 3:45 p.m. in the 4700 block of 119th Avenue SE.

The 53-year-old Everett driver apparently blacked out losing control of the car.

The woman was hit and was carried about 50 feet into a yard. Medics found the woman unconscious and transported her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

It was not immediately known if speed, drugs or alcohol were a factor in this accident.

The Bellevue Police Department is looking for any witnesses to the collision, and is asking for them to call the Bellevue Police Business line at 425-452-6917.

Sounds like this area needs a roundabout to slow down traffic, or people who know they're ill and/or heavily medicated shouldn't be driving.

Bellevue added the sidewalk a few years back. In an attempt to slow drivers down the northbound lane was narrowed, literally putting every pedestrian on the sidewalk feet away from passing vehicles; one could reach out and touch passing cars if so inclined. The only safety offered to pedestrians is the 8 inch curb and the rarely kept 25mph speed limit. This is tragic, but unless the city corrects their faulty design this won't be the last pedestrian -vehicle accident on this street. The only way to slow vehicles down and make drivers aware of their speed is to put in speed bumps, something the residents have asked for many, many years. True this has become a connecting arterial between Coal Creek pkwy and Newport Hills and emergency vehicles need to travel the road in hast; traditional speed bumps would hamper response time since the entire road width is spanned, but new speed bump designs are available which allows for a speed bump free path down the center of of the road!

That 53yrs. old man should be in jail and no bail at all. Neither intoxicated drunk or drugs because he strucked the 70yrs.old woman and she's now in a critical condition. I think those police officer should be always stay in one place to look out for those restless driver. The law should be fair. It's very unfair because it happened to my husband for the last 2yrs. the man who strucked on us while walking in the pedestrian crosswalk and his not intoxicated neither drunk or drugs. His fine is only $550? He killed my husband. If you were in my side, how do you feel? Even the WHATCOM COMMUNITY OFFICE has determine NOT to fine criminal charges against that 63yrs.old who strucked on us. DO YOU THINK THE LAW IS FAIR?

For my suggestions eventhough that 53yrs. old man from Everett is not intoxicated neither drunk or drugs, he should be in jail and no bail at all. That's a life for a 70yrs.old woman is not in critical conditon. I even don't understand the law here because last 2yrs.my husband and I were walking in the pedestrian crosswalk in Blaine,WA. the car stucked on us. My husband survived for only 5hrs. and i was in the ICU for 4days. The doctor even did not let my family see his body because he was totally damaged. The cost of the hospital bill for my husband is more than $57,000? He only survived for 5hrs. and they charged that much? The 63yrs. old guy who strucked on us is not intoxicated neither drunk or drugs so his NOT in jail at all. Even the WHATCOM COMMUNITY PROSECUTORS OFFICES has determine NOT to file criminal charges against that 63yrs.old man who also lived in Blaine,WA. He killed my husband and i almost got killed. THIS IS NOT FAIR AT ALL! If people were in my side, how do u fell?

Karin, are both people involved women, and are both in critical condition as the headline suggests, or was it intended to read "Woman"?
